Edit Your Own Website

Most of our clients want to be able to control what is on their websites, so we now offer QuickStep Website Editor, a very simple and inexpensive solution to doing your own updates.

Here is an overview of how it works.

How It Works

We're frequently asked whether the use of QuickStep will lock you into a long-term expensive web hosting contract, and whether you lose everything if you change hosts. Absolutely not! You can host your website on any hosting account that includes php. We strongly recommend that the host be running php as a cgi (this is the way most hosts are set up).

Mini Tutorial

  • To edit a page you "trigger" QuickStep by double-clicking anywhere in the footer of the page. The first time you do this a window will open for you to log in. After that (as long as your browser is open) you will not have to log in again.
  • The trigger causes green Edit Tags to appear. They mark the pre-defined "Editable Regions". Click one to edit that text.
  • After you click a green Edit Tag the content of the corresponding Editable Region will appear in a text editor. You'll make your changes and then click a Save icon or the Publish link.
  • Changes are saved directly to the live website. If you don't see the changes you made just Refresh the page to clear the old version out of your cache. You navigate the website normally to get to any page you want to edit, and double-click its footer to edit.

Cost: $100 to install QuickStep on your server plus a per-page charge to define the Editable Regions and insert the Trigger. If we set this up when we first build your website the per-page charge is $30. If we retrofit it after your website has been launched (and you have not modified the pages) the per-page charge is $40.

To install QuickStep on a website we did not build, or one that has been modified since we built it, we will look at the website and give you a per-page price, most likely $50 to $80.

If you want to do your own SEO we can set QuickStep up to allow you to edit your own meta tags for a one-time cost of $50.

Once QuickStep is installed there are no ongoing charges to use the tools.
