Web Analytics

The point of web analytics is to be able to actually measure how effective your website is so that you can continually improve it as a marketing tool and so that you can actually calculate the return on your investment in the website.

You can get free reports on your web traffic through your hosting control panel. "Web analytics" is something separate that provides a more fine-grained and informative view into the same information. The purpose of web analytics is to learn how effective your promotion campaigns are and how good a job your website is doing of turning warm leads into clients.

Of particular interest is the ability to find out how many people are finding your website from search engines and exactly what they typed in as a keyword. You can even find out which search terms have the highest conversion rate. That may affect your SEO strategy or even convince you to try Pay-Per-Click advertising.

You can find out how effective each of your pages is, and your website overall, by actually looking at the paths people take through your website. Find out how long they stay at each page, which page people frequently "exit" from (indicates that you need to improve that page), and which pages typically preceed an actual contact. The latter are your really great pages. Learn from your successes and improve your poorer performing pages accordingly.

Cost: Google Analytics is a free service. There are others that cost $10 - $30 a month. If you need help setting up the service we can do that at our consulting fee of $80/hour. Once the service is set up, a small snippet of code has to be added to each of your pages. We can do that for $15/page when we initially launch your website. Contact us for an estimate to retrofit after launch.
